This is Place Saint-Michel, heart of the Latin Quarter. Except for the superb 19th-century fountain, the boulevard looks ordinary. But:

 

Across the street is a movie theater, one of a cluster that proposes at least 200 foreign, classic or experimental films each week. You're in the planet's heart of movieland.

Up the boulevard: three landmark bookstores, that have been family-owned since 1880. They are part of the Paris memory of former students from everywhere

 

Across it: The street studded with Greek restaurants for tourists is medieval. It provides a clue to why most medieval neighborhoods were destroyed (toward 1860).
